Headaches can be downright painful, uncomfortable and depending on the severity, put a real dampener on your day. It can be easy to remedy a headache through medication, but there are a number of different ways that you can relieve a headache naturally. If you're pregnant or just want to try some natural remedies for your headaches before taking medication, we have listed some great natural ways to help you feel better and get back to your usual, pain-free self below.

1. Hydrate

Dehydration is one of the biggest causes of headaches. Something as simple as drinking water can be one of the most effective ways to naturally aid in the relief of a headache. In fact, drinking water has been shown to relieve headache symptoms in as little as half an hour.

2. Massage

A massage, especially around the temples, shoulders and back of the head, can help relieve tension headaches. It can also help relieve chronic neck or shoulder tension that can sometimes be causing your headaches.

3. Rest or meditation

A nap or just lying down in a dark room for 15 minutes can often stop a headache or migraine. Spiritual meditation, where you practise relaxation, has also been shown to reduce several types of headaches.

4. Herbal remedies

Remedies such as drinking a cup of warm herbal tea, like chamomile, has also been known to reduce the severity of headaches and helps your body relax and de-stress, causing less tension in the body and reducing the source of some headaches.

5. Hot or cold compresses

Often a cooling facecloth or icepack can help with the severity of a headache; alternatively, a warm heat pack can also help soothe a sore head. Try placing a warm compress or heat pack along the back of the shoulders and neck to aid in muscle relaxation and reduce the tightness of muscles in the area.

The next time you feel a headache coming on, why don't you try some of these natural remedies? As you can see, there are many effective ways to try and treat a headache naturally and without medication. Don't forget, if your headaches still linger after trying these natural remedies, it's important to seek medical advice.
